In the last weekend of September 2020, publishing house Grotesk organizes a masterclass poetry in the Frisian language (location: Tresoar). The target group is the experienced, actively publishing Frisian poet. Participants can focus on originality, depth and poetic mastery during a practical, intensive weekend course. They tackle the issues that make poems important, “urgent” and fascinating.

The trainers are Elmar Kuiper and Abe de Vries, two well-known Frisian poets with a lot of experience in teaching and guiding. The course has an interactive workshop form, so that the participants themselves determine what is on the agenda. The maximum number of participants is six, so that everyone can receive individual and customized feedback.

The offer includes thinking about the creative process (“what am I actually doing here”), but also things like line breaks and other use of white space between the words, the usefulness of fixed poetic forms and the use of humor, rhythm, melody and imagination. The masterclass allows the participant to work on his own poetic experiment and increases his understanding of art. The weekend starts with the basics and ends with a tough final project. The participant can then immediately apply his new talents; the trainers will send everyone home with an to do list to keep the focus on the artistic process.
